What is Nazca?
Nazca is a free, open-source vector graphics editor that can be used as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Developed by the Inkscape team, Nazca aims to provide a streamlined interface and set of tools focused specifically on vector illustration workflows.
Like Illustrator, Nazca is built around working with vector shapes, paths, text, and gradients. It comes with a familiar layers panel, grouping tools, and options to align, distribute, and transform objects. The pen and shape tools allow you to draw Bezier curves and geometric shapes which can be edited with on-canvas controls.
Key features include:
- Clean, straightforward interface focused on core vector tools
- Layer organization and drawing/editing tools similar to Illustrator
- Bezier and geometric shape tools
- Gradient fills and strokes
- Typography with font preview and formatting options
- Grouping, alignment, and distribution of objects
- Import/export SVG, PDF, EPS, and other vector formats
- Free and open-source software (FOSS) under GPL license
While less fully-featured than Illustrator, Nazca provides an appealing free alternative for illustrators, designers, and anyone needing a dedicated vector drawing program without the cost or complexity of Adobe's software.
