OpenCellID is an open source collaborative project to create a worldwide database of cell tower locations and other related data. It crowd sources data from mobile devices and apps that have OpenCellID SDK integrated to collect information on cell towers in range such as Cell ID, Location Area Code, Mobile Country Code, etc.
The goal of OpenCellID is to build an accurate and comprehensive database of cell tower locations around the world. This database can enable a variety of location-based services and applications. For example:

Participation is open to individuals, universities, businesses etc. The database updated daily and made available freely with certain usage restrictions. Various commercial services are also offered by the parent company Unwired Labs based on the OpenCellID database.
