What is Orfeo ToolBox?

Orfeo ToolBox (OTB) is an open-source C++ library for processing remote sensing images. It is specialized in analyzing high resolution optical, multi-spectral and radar images at a large scale. OTB provides a wide range of state-of-the-art algorithms for tasks like:

• Image I/O: reading/writing common geo-referenced raster formats
• Pre-processing: radiometric calibration, atmospheric correction, geometric modeling and image registration
• Filtering: denoising, smoothing, edge detection
• Feature extraction and pattern recognition: road extraction, building detection, change detection
• Image segmentation and classification: vectorization, object-based classification
• Applications like stereo reconstruction, 3D point cloud generation

OTB is integrated with Monteverdi, a GUI for visualization and interaction with images. It leverages other open source libraries like GDAL and OpenCV. OTB can handle very large images efficiently. It is used for environmental monitoring, agriculture monitoring, disaster management, and more by researchers and geospatial professionals.
