What is Pine Player?

Pine Player is a free and open source cross-platform media player. Originally developed for Linux, Pine Player is now also available for Windows and macOS.

Pine Player supports a wide range of media codecs and formats out of the box, including MP3, AAC, FLAC, WMA, WAV, Ogg Vorbis for audio and AVI, MKV, MP4, MOV, WMV, FLV for video. It can play both local media files as well as network streams.

The interface of Pine Player is designed to be simple and easy to use. It features an intuitive playback queue where users can easily line up music and videos to play. Other features include support for playlists, customizable keyboard shortcuts, and various appearance options to suit different preferences.

As an open source project, Pine Player places a strong emphasis on standards compliance, privacy, and security. It does not collect any usage data from users. The source code is available for anyone to audit and contribute to.

While more basic compared to some feature-packed commercial media players, Pine Player aims to provide a solid no-frills experience for casually listening to audio or watching video. Its lightweight resource footprint makes it well-suited for older computers as well.
