What is Souq.com?

Souq.com is an online retailer and marketplace launched in 2005 as one of the first e-commerce platforms in the Middle East and North Africa. Headquartered in Dubai, Souq.com serves as a marketplace selling products across various categories including electronics, fashion, perfumes, home appliances, baby items and more.

Souq.com aims to cater to both retail and wholesale customers in the MENA region. It features over 9.4 million products from a network of over 70,000 sellers as of 2022. The platform is available in Arabic and English to serve its broad customer base.

Initially focused only on the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Souq.com expanded operations across the MENA region over the years. Key markets today include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, and Egypt.

Souq.com received several rounds of funding from investors like Tiger Global Management and Naspers before being acquired by Amazon in 2017 for $580 million.
