In the Toki Tori games, the player guides Toki Tori through various levels that are presented as single screen puzzle stages. The objective is to use different tools and items available on each level to overcome obstacles, predators, and traps to ultimately collect all the eggs scattered around the level.

Tools that Toki Tori has available include bridges to cross gaps, teleporters to move instantly between two points, freeze rays to freeze enemies, and instant stompers to crush things underneath. Toki Tori must collect whistles that give these abilities on each level in order to utilize them.
