Veoh: Watch User-Generated & Professionally Made Videos

Veoh is an online video streaming website that allows users to watch, share, and discover video content. It offers both user-generated and professionally produced video content across a range of categories.

What is Veoh?

Veoh is an online video platform and streaming website that allows users to watch, share, and discover video content. It was launched in 2006 and offered a platform for users to upload their own videos as well as watch videos shared by others.

Veoh set itself apart from other video sharing platforms like YouTube by focusing on longer-form, quality content. While YouTube centered around short viral videos, Veoh targeted more premium content creators, offering partnerships and ways for video makers to monetize their work.

Some key features of Veoh included:

  • User profiles for video creators to upload and share their content
  • Different video categories like entertainment, tech, sports, music, etc. to browse
  • Advanced search and discovery tools to find videos by keywords, tags, or channels
  • Playlists and the ability to favorite videos to save and watch later
  • TV-like subscription channels from premium content partners
  • Advertising and monetization opportunities for video creators once their videos obtained a certain number of views

At one point, Veoh raised over $70 million dollars in funding and seemed like a rising competitor in the online video space. However, it struggled compared to platforms like YouTube over time. Lawsuits regarding copyright issues also plagued the site and by around 2010, Veoh declared bankruptcy and was acquired by an online marketing company.
