Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a series of real-time strategy video games set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. What is Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (Series)?

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a series of real-time strategy video games developed by Relic Entertainment and published by THQ. The games are set in the dystopian Warhammer 40,000 universe where different races and factions battle for territory and resources. The series currently consists of three main titles and multiple expansions:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (2004) introduced the Blood Ravens Space Marine chapter battling Orks and Chaos.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Winter Assault (2005) added the Imperial Guard and Eldar factions.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade (2006) expanded the campaign with more races on a meta map.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm (2008) culminated the first trilogy and included Sisters of Battle and Dark Eldar.

In 2017, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III was released and focused on hero units alongside standard troops. However, it did not achieve the same critical and commercial success as earlier titles.

Key features across the Dawn of War series include squad-based infantry combat, extensive unit customization and leveling up an army's commander. There is a strong focus on 'micromanagement' and using specialist units effectively during large-scale battles. Most games include multiple game modes like skirmish, multiplayer, sandbox and campaign modes with branching narratives.
