Warlight is a free, online multiplayer strategy game that has gameplay similar to the popular board game Risk. Players compete on a map divided into territories, seeking to conquer territories and eliminate their opponents.
Games can be played live or take place over days or weeks, with players making moves whenever it is convenient for them. This asynchronous style of gameplay means games can be very fast-paced with lots of back-and-forth in a short period of time, or they can unfold slowly over many days or weeks.
At the beginning of a game, the map is divided between the players into territories they control. On a turn, players receive "deployment" points which they can use to deploy troops onto territories they control. Players also get income points each turn based on the number of territories and bonus zones they control. Income points can be used to purchase additional troops.
The objective is to capture opponent's territories by moving troops from your territories to an adjacent enemy territory and winning the battle. Battles are resolved automatically by the game servers, with results determined by the number of troops committed to the battle by each side and an element of luck. Players can also form alliances with each other for strategic purposes.
In addition to live games, Warlight also features asynchronous tournaments and a ranking/rating system for competitive play. There are also single-player challenges focused on using strategy to solve map scenarios. Users can customize maps and settings when hosting games.
