Word-forming puzzle video game by PopCap Games. Players form words from a grid of available letters to score points and clear the screen.
Bookworm is a popular word-forming puzzle video game developed and published by PopCap Games. First released in 2004, Bookworm allows players to form words from a grid of available letters to score points and clear the screen. As words are formed, new letters take their place, allowing for continuous gameplay.
In Bookworm, players are presented with a grid of letters and must connect adjacent letters to form words. Longer words score more points. If no words are formed, letters will begin to pile up and the game ends when the grid fills. The game includes several modes like Arcade, where the goal is to score as many points as possible before the grid fills, Puzzle, where players must meet certain word quotas, and various timed modes.
Bookworm incorporates bright, engaging graphics and sound effects to create an experience akin to other classic PopCap games like Bejeweled. It also features lexicon power-ups and bonuses as well as competitive leaderboards. Bookworm saw success as both a mobile title and a downloadable PC/Mac game. Two sequels, Bookworm Adventures and Bookworm Adventures Volume 2, take the word-forming concept and apply it to an adventure role-playing setting.
