What is Cassette?

Cassette is an open-source software application used to record, edit, and share screen capture videos on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. As an alternative to premium tools like Camtasia and Screencast-O-Matic, Cassette provides an extensive feature set for producing professional tutorial videos, software demonstrations, and more.

With an intuitive drag-and-drop timeline editor, Cassette makes it easy to trim clips, stitch segments together, overlay webcam video, add transitions, apply annotations (arrows, highlights, etc.), animation effects, captions, and background music. The editing workspace is highly customizable with support for themes, keyboard shortcuts, and modifications to the user interface.

Recording capabilities allow capturing specific app windows, entire desktops, webcam video, and microphone audio. Advanced settings provide control over video resolution, frames rates, audio quality, and output formats. Cassette encodes videos directly into common distribution formats like MP4 and WebM.
