What is CODE VEIN?

Code Vein is an action role-playing game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment in 2019. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian setting with vampire and horror themes. Players control a customizable character known as a Revenant, a vampire-like being with supernatural abilities.

The world of Code Vein has been ravaged by a mysterious catastrophe known as the Great Collapse. What remains of society has come together within a closed-off city known as Vein. Revenants prey on the city's remaining humans for blood in order to maintain their sanity. However, overconsumption of blood causes Revenants to permanently transform into monstrous Lost.

Gameplay in Code Vein is similar to the Souls video game series. It features a third-person perspective, challenging combat, and decision-based character progression. Boss battles and exploration also play a major role. Code Vein puts more focus on storytelling than previous Souls-like games, featuring a companion system and choice-driven character interactions.

Players can explore dungeon-style areas either alone or cooperatively with one other player over online multiplayer. Combat utilizes different types of melee weapons, firearms, gifts (special vampire abilities), dodging, blocking, and timing-based attacks to defeat enemies. The combat emphasizes chaining together combos for additional damage.

Revenants can be extensively customized through the game's character creator and progression system. This allows players to finely tune their character's appearance, stats, fighting style, and role within a party. AI companions known as partners can also be customized to complement the player's fighting style.
