What is NieR: Automata?
NieR: Automata is an action role-playing game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix in 2017. It is a sequel to the 2010 video game Nier, and is set in the year 11945, during a proxy war between alien-created machines and human-crafted androids for control over Earth, the remnants of humanity having fled to the Moon.
You play as combat androids 2B and 9S who are sent from a base on the Moon to Earth on a mission to stop the machine army. The game combines role-playing elements and action-based hack and slash combat, with seamless transitions between areas and battles. It features an open world environment along with various quests and side activities to partake in.
NieR: Automata received critical acclaim for its story, soundtrack, gameplay and ending E. It shipped over 6 million copies worldwide and has become a cult hit. The game is appreciated for its philosophical themes and dealing with existential questions about the meaning of life in a post-apocalyptic setting.
