An open-source space shooter game with roguelike elements, featuring procedurally generated levels, upgradable spaceships and equipment, fast-paced combat against AI enemies, and a goal to explore uncharted space by defeating enemies and completing missions.
Destination Sol is an open-source, top-down space shooter with roguelike elements developed by Edward Miller. It features procedurally generated levels, destructible terrain, upgradable spaceships and equipment, and challenging combat against AI enemies.
The game takes place in a distant future where mankind has spread across multiple star systems. As the captain of a spaceship, the player must travel ever deeper into uncharted space, taking on missions, trading goods, and engaging in dogfights and boss battles. The further you get from civilized space, the greater the rewards but also the stronger the enemies.
Core gameplay revolves around piloting your single-person craft through space while blasting enemies and dodging incoming projectiles and collisions. As enemies are defeated, you earn experience points and currency which can be used to purchase ship, weapon, and system upgrades. Procedurally generated space stations contain vendors, quest givers, and garages for installing upgrades and making repairs.
The game features a full campaign mode with primary storyline and side missions as well as an endless mode for seeing how far you can get. With challenging combat, unlockable ships and equipment, and high replay value, Destination Sol offers hours of old-school space shooting action.
