What is The Ur-Quan Masters?

The Ur-Quan Masters is an open-source port of the classic sci-fi computer game Star Control II, originally released in 1992. It features a science fiction story set in space as the player commands a starship exploring the galaxy after Earth has been conquered by alien invaders.

Gameplay consists of a mix of space exploration, ship combat, resource management, and roleplaying elements. Hundreds of planets can be visited across dozens of solar systems, each containing unique lifeforms, cultures, and stories for the player to discover.

As captain of a precursor starship, you assemble a fleet to fight back against the Ur-Quan invaders who have enslaved the major alien races of the galaxy. Along the way you encounter the cowardly Spathi, mystic Melnorme traders, and numerous other species while uncovering artifacts and lost technologies that may aid your quest.

Featuring colorful hand-drawn art and MIDI music faithfully preserved from the original game, The Ur-Quan Masters remains a cult classic space adventure hailed as one of the top PC games of the 1990s, and still enjoyable for fans of sci-fi, strategy, and RPG gameplay.
