What is Diep.io?
Diep.io is a popular free browser-based multiplayer action game released in 2016. In the game, players control tanks and battle other players in an arena setting. The goal is to upgrade your tank by destroying other shapes and enemy players, allowing you to gain more powerful weapons and abilities.
When starting the game, players begin controlling a basic tank that can shoot bullets. By destroying the shapes that spawn around the arena such as squares and triangles, players gain experience points. Rack up enough XP and your tank will level up, allowing you to choose a tank upgrade. Upgrades include things like increased bullet speed and penetration, additional gun barrels for extra firepower, drones that automatically target enemies, increased movement and reload speeds, and more defensive upgrades too.
There is no ultimate goal in Diep.io other than competing to get the highest score possible on the leaderboards before your tank is eventually destroyed. Part of the challenge comes from balancing offensive upgrades that allow you to dish out more damage, with defensive upgrades to boost your survivability. Your choice of upgrades creates many interesting tank builds and strategies.
In addition to the free-for-all game mode where every tank battles each other, there are also team modes and other variants. The simple 2D graphics and easy to pick up gameplay combined with the depth of customization and real-time PvP competition has made Diep.io a popular browser title with fans across the world.
