A god game where you control the evolution of a species from a single cell to a galactic empire, spanning stages including cell, creature, tribe, civilization, and space.
Spore is a 2008 life simulation single-player god video game developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. The player guides a species from its humble beginnings as a single cell through evolution as an intelligent and social creature. The game covers many genres including action, real-time strategy, and role-playing games.
There are five distinct stages the player progresses through in Spore: Cell stage, Creature stage, Tribal stage, Civilization stage, and Space stage. Each stage has its own different missions and goals.
In Cell stage, players control a microorganism in a primordial tidal pool. Players must avoid hazards and eat DNA to grow and evolve their cell. As the cell grows, players can add parts and continue to interact with other cells to build relationships.
Creature stage focuses on the player controlling a land creature. The player can add new parts, make allies, or fight enemies as they progress. The goal is to increase the creature's intelligence and size through interactions with other species.
Tribal stage ramps up the difficulty as players now control an entire tribe colonizing the land. Players must manage relationships with other tribes through socialization, trade, war, or religious convertion. The player's goal is to gain control of the planet.
In Civilization stage, players build cities for their tribe and progress their technology, economy, and culture with the goal of military conquest or diplomatic relations with the planet's entire population.
Finally in Space stage, players can explore space in a customizable spaceship. Planets and lifeforms can be terraformed, and empires in space can cooperate or compete for control of the entire galaxy.
