Free-to-play mobile game based on the Dragon Ball anime franchise, featuring character collection and battles

What is Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle?

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle is a free-to-play mobile game for iOS and Android devices based on the popular Dragon Ball anime franchise. It was released in 2015 by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

In Dokkan Battle, players take on the role of a newcomer to the Dragon Ball universe and collect characters from the show such as Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and more. These characters can be summoned by spending in-game currencies on summon banners. Players then build teams of fighters to take on various gameplay modes.

The main gameplay centers around colored Ki spheres. Players tap these spheres on the battle screen to have their team attack the opponents. By lining up spheres of the same color, combo attacks can be launched for greater damage. Strategically choosing color matches is key to winning more difficult battles.

Other gameplay modes allow players to take on story events based on arcs from Dragon Ball Z, participate in special themed events and tournaments, battle powerful bosses, and compete against other players. The gameplay is simple tap-based controls, but building the optimal team composition and strategy requires more thought.

As a gacha-style game, Dokkan Battle encourages players to spend real money to acquire rare and powerful characters. But it is still fully enjoyable as a casual free-to-play game. With over 500 million downloads worldwide, it continues to have an enthusiastic player base years after initial release.
