Discover the popular Guilty Gear franchise, developed by Arc System Works, featuring anime-inspired graphics and intricate fighting mechanics with a rock/metal soundtrack.
Guilty Gear is a long-running 2D fighting game franchise developed and published by Arc System Works. First launched in 1998 on the PlayStation, the Guilty Gear games stand out from other fighting titles with their anime-inspired visuals, heavy metal-inspired soundtracks, and complex fighting mechanics.
The original Guilty Gear introduces the initial roster of 14 wildly creative characters, including protagonist Sol Badguy, the bounty hunter; Ky Kiske, a former gear-hunting holy knight; Millia Rage, an assassin fugitive; and Axl Low, a time-travelling British swordsman. Arc System Works continued expanding the cast and mechanics with sequel titles like Guilty Gear X and Guilty Gear XX, adding fan-favorites like Faust, Potemkin, and Dizzy.
While retaining the core combat, later Guilty Gear titles experimented with 3D graphics and gameplay tweaks. The most recent entry, Guilty Gear Strive from 2021, uses 3D cel-shaded visuals but keeps the classic 2D fighting action. With intricate combos, rocking tunes, and outrageous fighters, the enduring Guilty Gear series has cemented itself as one of the most stylistic and technical franchises in the fighting genre.
