What is Dungeons & Dragons Online?

Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) is a free-to-play 3D fantasy MMORPG developed and published by Turbine. DDO is based on the popular Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying game and features a similar style of gameplay focused on questing and combat. Players create customized characters choosing from 16 races (human, elf, dwarf, etc.) and 15 classes (fighter, wizard, rogue, etc.) and progress them through story-driven adventures set in the fictional world of Eberron.

Gameplay in DDO revolves around instanced dungeons and other dangerous locations filled with AI-controlled enemies and puzzles. Players battle monsters, collect epic loot, level up their characters gaining new skills and abilities, and take part in an overarching narrative spanning dozens of episodic quests. Group play is encouraged, allowing parties of up to 6 players to take on challenges cooperatively. DDO features a real-time combat system requiring player skill and good party coordination to prevail against deadly foes.

Since going free-to-play in 2009, DDO enjoys a devoted community of fans attracted to its strategic, skill-based combat, extensive character customization, and faithful adaptation of D&D's beloved worlds and lore. While showing its age, DDO remains popular with over 40 expansions keeping the game feeling fresh after 15 years.
