Fallout Shelter is a free-to-play simulation video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios, with creative input from Behavior Interactive. Part of the acclaimed Fallout series, it was originally released worldwide for iOS devices in June 2015, followed by releases for Android devices in August 2015, Xbox One in February 2016, and Microsoft Windows in July 2016.
In the game, the player acts as the Overseer of a Vault and manages its residents. The player is responsible for the well-being of their community of Vault dwellers, including keeping them productive, happy, and safe from threats like fires, radroach infestations and attacks from raiders. Resources like food, water and power must be maintained through various facilities that the player builds in the Vault.
The vault functions similarly to a ant farm, with the player able to zoom in and see every room and resident. The dwellers reside in various locations around the Vault performing jobs like generating resources, putting out fires, fending off attacks, and exploring the wasteland. By keeping their Dwellers happy, they can be made to procreate and produce offspring.
The game combines Fallout's signature retro-futurist art style and humor with gameplay elements from simulation titles. It has been well-received by critics and has grossed over $108 million by 2017. Several updates have since been released, adding new features and quests to expand the gameplay.
