A simple falling block puzzle game where players rotate and move different shaped blocks to create full lines and score points before the playfield fills up.
Finitris is an open-source, minimalist Tetris clone written in JavaScript. Despite its simplicity, it offers smooth gameplay and retains the addictive, timeless fun of the classic Tetris formula.
As in traditional Tetris games, differently shaped blocks called Tetriminos fall from the top of the playfield. Players use the arrow keys to rotate the blocks and guide them sideways to neatly fill rows along the bottom. When a row is completely filled with no gaps, it disappears and the player scores points. This creates more room at the bottom for additional pieces to enter.
The gameplay starts out slow, but as lines disappear the pace gradually increases until the blocks fall quite quickly in later levels. Players have to think and act strategically to rotate and fit pieces together for maximum efficiency. The goal is to clear lines and rack up points for as long as possible until the playfield fills up from the rising pile of blocks.
While short on features, Finitris delivers reliably smooth performance and lightweight installation thanks to its JavaScript and HTML5 implementation. Its no-frills design focuses purely on the addictive block gameplay, which has made Tetris such an iconic and enduring classic through the years.
