What is Glimpses?
Glimpses is a free and open-source raster graphics editor for Linux developed by Pinpoint Software. It provides a user-friendly graphical interface for performing basic editing operations on images, such as:
- Cropping and resizing
- Rotating and flipping
- Color adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation etc.)
- Filters (sharpen, blur, vignette etc.)
- Layers and transparency
- Basic painting and drawing tools
Glimpses aims to fill a gap for a simple, approachable image editor on the Linux desktop. While lacking the advanced features of professional software like Photoshop or GIMP, it provides a lightweight and easy-to-use alternative focused on essential image editing tools. The streamlined interface drops advanced functionality that may overwhelm casual users.
Some of the strengths that make Glimpses suitable for basic image editing needs include support for common file formats like JPEG, PNG, WebP etc., non-destructive editing with layers, and extensibility via third-party plugins. Finally, being open-source allows community contributions to the project.
CherryTree, Milanote, TagSpaces, Notesnook, Trilium Notes, UpNote, CintaNotes, wikidPad, Tomboy, Flamory, Cryptee are some alternatives to Glimpses.
