What is Hector?
Hector is a free, open source password manager and secure digital vault application. It enables users to securely store sensitive information such as passwords, credit card details, identities, notes, and more in an encrypted virtual vault on their device.
Some key features of Hector include:
- Secure encryption (AES-256) to protect user data
- Master password and key file options for vault access
- Auto-fill login credentials into websites and apps
- Cross-platform support for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android
- Open source code that is community driven
- Cloud sync to keep vaults updated across devices (optional)
- Import from other password managers like LastPass, 1Password etc.
Hector stores all confidential data in an encrypted database locally on the user's device. The master password to unlock the vault is not stored anywhere, so no one apart from the user can access their private information. Hector is free to use without restrictions and does not require an internet connection to function. Its open source nature also means the code is transparent and auditable by the community.
