Discover Infinite Crisis, a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game with DC Comics characters, shut down just 5 months after release due to low player count.
Infinite Crisis was a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed by Turbine, Inc. and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It was based on the DC Comics multiverse and allowed players to control characters from various alternate universes such as Gaslight, Atomic, Arcane, and Mecha.
The game featured a variety of gameplay modes including single lane, two lanes, and three lanes with specialized maps for each one. Before each match, players could customize their character's stats and abilities to suit different playstyles and counter opposing heroes.
Infinite Crisis entered open beta in March 2015 and was fully released soon after. However, despite positive reviews, the game failed to attract a sustainable player base. After only 5 months of operation, Infinite Crisis was shut down permanently in August 2015.
Analysts pointed to several potential reasons for the game's rapid failure including an oversaturated MOBA market, lack of brand recognition compared to established titles like League of Legends and Dota 2, and the complexity of having multiple versions of popular characters from DC comics.
Though short-lived, Infinite Crisis was praised for its innovative art style and character designs which brought many obscure alternate universe versions of popular heroes and villains to life. The game still retains a small, dedicated fan base who consider it one of the greatest MOBAs that never found mainstream success.
