Discover League of Legends, a popular multiplayer online battle arena game developed by Riot Games, where two teams of five players compete on a map to destroy the enemy base and win.
League of Legends (LoL) is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game developed and published by Riot Games in 2009. Inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA), a popular mod for Warcraft III, LoL aims to provide a standalone equivalent. Two teams of five players battle on a map, seeking to destroy the enemy team's base by controlling their own units, known as champions. There are currently over 140 unique champions, each with different abilities and playstyles.
Matches take place on a map called Summoner's Rift, which has three lanes connecting each team's base. The goal is to push through your lane with the assistance of minions, computer controlled units which spawn from each base and follow the lanes forward. By killing enemy minions and opposing champions, your team earns gold to purchase items and become stronger. With good positioning, map awareness and communication, you can destroy the enemy Nexus located in their base.
The game has an exceptionally thriving pro gaming scene and international ranked leagues and tournaments. With regular updates adding new champions, skins and balance changes, League of Legends remains extremely popular years after initial release due to its variety of team compositions, extensive champion pool and the rapidly evolving metagame.
