What is Mulwi Search?

Mulwi Search is an open-source desktop search engine application designed to help users find files, emails, contacts, and other personal data stored on their local Windows, Linux or macOS computer or device. It builds a searchable index of the user's files and data, allowing them to perform fast keyword searches to instantly locate relevant information on their hard drive.

Developed by Mulwi LLC, Mulwi Search offers an easy-to-use graphical interface for constructing search queries combining keywords, operators, filters by date or file type. Search results are displayed in an intuitive results browser showing file previews, highlighting keywords in context, sorting by relevance or date, applying filters and more. Files can be opened directly from Mulwi Search results with one click.

Unlike platform-native search features or online search engines, Mulwi focuses entirely on local device search for personal information privacy. Everything is indexed and searched on the local device itself - no data is transferred externally. In addition to local file search, Mulwi also connects to certain apps like Outlook and Thunderbird to enable searching emails, contacts and more app content.

As an open source software, Mulwi Search is free to download and use without restrictions, ads or user tracking. It is developed publicly on GitHub and contributions are welcomed from the open source community.
