Explore an alien landscape and solve puzzles in this mind-bending first-person adventure game, developed by Cyan Worlds, creators of the Myst series.
Obduction is a first-person adventure/puzzle video game developed by Cyan Worlds. It is considered a spiritual successor to Cyan's previous successful games in the adventure genre, particularly the highly acclaimed Myst series.
The player takes on the role of a character who has been mysteriously abducted from Earth by a strange organic artifact and transported to an alien planet. The landscape is split into four different worlds mashed together - a mixture of the alien planet's own terrain blended with places and objects snatched from Earth by the aliens.
Gameplay focuses heavily on environmental puzzles and exploration. The player must figure out the working mechanisms behind various machines and contraptions scattered across the worlds in order to unlock new areas and progress the story. There is also a subtle subplot told via clues and secrets hidden within the world for the player to discover.
Released in 2016, Obduction was widely praised for its striking visuals, rich sound design, and challenging puzzles reminiscent of Cyan's previous games. However, some critics felt the game was too difficult due to very limited guidance given to the player. Overall though, Obduction was seen as a solid entry in the first-person adventure genre and a successful revival of sorts for original Myst creators Cyan Worlds.
