What is Rebuild (Series)?
Rebuild is a popular city-building game series created by indie developers Northway Games. The first game in the series, simply titled Rebuild, was released in 2011. In Rebuild, players take on the role of mayor in a post-apocalyptic settlement struggling to recover. Using strategic resource management and urban planning, the player must guide a small group of survivors in building a thriving community.
Across multiple eras, the player makes decisions about zoning areas for residential, commercial, and industrial use. Manufacturing and trade become especially important for acquiring building materials, food, medicine, and other essential resources. All while balancing a tight budget, resolving disputes, and protecting the settlement from threats like disease, famine, climate events, and zombie attacks.
The Rebuild series stands out for its upbeat soundtrack and visuals belying the often desperate situations faced by the player. While zombie invasion and apocalyptic themes are common in games, Rebuild puts the focus on building hope amidst the ruins. The series has been praised for its addictive, well-balanced gameplay and managing to be fun without excessive violence or combat.
