ReCycle is an audio editing tool used for slicing, editing, and manipulating digital audio. It specializes in working with loops and sampled sounds to create reusable audio clips for music production.
ReCycle is a digital audio editing software application developed by Propellerhead Software. It is used primarily for working with loops and sampled sounds to create reusable audio clips for music production.
The core function of ReCycle is the ability to non-destructively slice an audio loop into separate events and then edit the timing, pitch, volume, pan position and envelope of each event. This allows a loop to be broken down into its individual sounds (such as kicks, snares, cymbals, etc.) which can then be rearranged, deleted or replaced while retaining the audio quality and rhythmic flow of the original loop.
Once sliced and edited, the loop can be exported as a REX file which contains the slice timing and parameter change information. This REX file can then be loaded into compatible music production software like Reason, Ableton Live and Logic Pro, where the loop will play back according to the edits and slices created in ReCycle.
Beyond basic looping/sampling capabilities, ReCycle provides powerful MIDI processing tools for manipulating audio, real-time audio stretching and pitch shifting algorithms and support for integration with hardware samplers like those from Akai and Roland.
The software aims to provide maximum flexibility for remixing and reworking loop-based audio material. It is especially popular amongst DJs and electronic music producers who rely heavily on sampling and tight rhythms.
