What is OrdrumBox?
OrdrumBox is a free digital audio workstation (DAW) software designed for creating, recording, editing and mixing music and audio tracks. It is an open-source alternative to expensive DAW software such as Ableton Live and Pro Tools.
With OrdrumBox, users can record live audio inputs from microphones or instruments plugged into their computer. It comes with a range of built-in virtual instruments like drums, synthesizers and samplers that can also be used for music creation.
Some key features of OrdrumBox include:
- Multi-track audio recording at up to 32-bit/192 kHz quality
- Full suite of effects and audio processing tools (compression, EQ, reverb etc.)
- MIDI sequencing of virtual instruments and external MIDI hardware
- Support for VST instrument and effect plugins
- Powerful mixing console that mimics real-world analog consoles
- Easy-to-use piano roll editor for note programming
The interface has been designed for both beginner and advanced music producers. Although not as fully featured as paid alternatives, OrdrumBox packs an impressive amount of music production capability into a free and open-source software package.
Being open-source, OrdrumBox's codebase is publicly accessible for anyone to modify, port to new platforms or learn from. An active community of volunteer developers maintain and improve the software regularly by implementing user-requested features.
