A classic series of adventure games developed by Sierra On-Line, following the misadventures of Roger Wilco as he navigates dangerous planets and spaceships.
Space Quest is a classic series of sci-fi comedy adventure games developed and published by Sierra On-Line. The games follow the adventures of Roger Wilco, an incompetent janitor who somehow always ends up saving the day across the galaxies.
The first Space Quest game came out in 1986 and featured cutting-edge (for the time) 16-color EGA graphics. Players guided Roger through the dangers of the Sarien-occupied spaceship Arcada while cracking jokes and collecting odd items. The series continued through 6 main games and a few spin-offs throughout the '80s and '90s, parodying science fiction tropes from Star Trek to Planet of the Apes.
Roger would bumble his way through one hair-raising situation after another, whether it was escaping the the hazards of Planet Kerona or thwarting the evil Sludge Vohaul. The games were known for their quirky humor, sci-fi references, and the many hilarious ways Roger could die. From asteroids to acid pits to Terminator parodies, every Space Quest game was packed with dangers to keep players on their toes.
While the graphics and interfaces seem primitive by today's standards, the Space Quest series paved the way for many of the best story-based and comedy adventure games that would follow. It remains a fond memory for many gamers who grew up cracking up at Roger's misadventures across the universe.
