What is Splitgate?

Splitgate is a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) video game developed by 1047 Games. It was first released in beta in 2019 and officially launched in 2021 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is also available.

What makes Splitgate unique from other FPS games is its implementation of player-controlled portals, drawing inspiration from Valve's Portal series. These allow players to instantly transport themselves from one part of the map to another, enabling quick traversal and opening up opportunities for creative plays and flanking maneuvers.

Core gameplay will be familiar to fans of games like Halo and Call of Duty. Players battle in arena-style maps across a variety of multiplayer game modes, including classics like Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and King of the Hill. There is a progression system with seasonal battle passes and challenges that allow players to unlock new customization items like character skins, weapon skins, banners, and more.

Splitgate features full cross-platform play, allowing players on any platform to matchmake and compete together. There is also cross-progression support, with player customization and unlocks carrying over across platforms. The game continues to receive regular content updates from 1047 Games, including new maps, modes, weapons, items, and balance changes.
