Join teams of heroes with unique abilities and work together to secure and defend objectives in a series of team-based first-person shooter video games, developed by Blizzard Entertainment.
Overwatch is a series of team-based first-person shooter video games developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The series launched in 2016 with Overwatch, which features squad-based combat with two teams of six players each selecting from a large roster of heroes, each with a unique design, abilities, and play style, and work to secure and defend control points on a map and escort a payload across the map in a limited amount of time.
The Overwatch games features a diverse cast of over 30 playable hero characters categorized into three roles - Tank, Damage, and Support. Tanks have a large health pool and abilities to protect themselves and teammates, damage heroes specialize in eliminating opponents, and support heroes heal and boost teammates. The series emphasizes cooperative gameplay using each hero's unique abilities to interact and coordinate with teammates to achieve victory.
A sequel, Overwatch 2, was announced in 2019 and builds upon the original with new multiplayer game modes, updated visuals, additional heroes and maps, and new PvE co-op experiences that advance the game's story and allow players to team up against computer-controlled enemies. Overwatch 2 entered early access in October 2022 and features cross-platform play and unified progression with Overwatch.
