Upon release, Battleborn was praised for its artstyle, character design, and blending of genres but criticized for its confusing marketing leading up to release as it was released close to the juggernaut multiplayer shooter Overwatch. While it accumulated a small dedicated playerbase, it struggled to compete with other hero/class based shooters. The game has since ceased active development but the servers remain online.
