The Chronicles of Riddick is a science fiction media franchise created by screenwriter and director David Twohy. It centers on the antihero character Richard B. Riddick, played by Vin Diesel, who first appeared in the 2000 film Pitch Black.

In Pitch Black, Riddick is a dangerous fugitive who crash lands on a planet with a group of passengers. When deadly alien creatures threaten their lives, Riddick joins forces with the survivors to fight back. His character is that of an antihero - ruthless and self-interested but possessing unique abilities that prove useful.

This was followed in 2004 by the sequel film The Chronicles of Riddick, which sees Riddick battling against the fanatical Necromonger army and theirLord Marshal who is trying to subjugate the universe. Two direct-to-DVD short anime films were also released, providing backstory between Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick - Dark Fury (2004) and A Furyan Tale (2006).
