Topaz Mask AI is an AI-powered masking and background removal tool from Topaz Labs. It works as a plugin for compatible photo editing software like Photoshop and Lightroom.

Mask AI allows users to quickly and accurately mask subjects in their photos, like people, animals, cars, etc. and cut them out from the background. This is useful for isolating subjects to place them on new backgrounds, apply targeted adjustments, or for compositing.

Unlike manual masking and selection tools, Mask AI uses artificial intelligence to refine rough selections made by the user. This saves a huge amount of time compared to meticulously going in and selecting pixels along edges. It also results in very accurate masks.

After making a rough selection with lasso or brush tools, at the click of a button Mask AI analyzes the selection and background and refines the mask. Advanced edge detection algorithms neatly capture wispy hairs, fuzzy edges, transparencies and more. Additional refinement tools then allow cleaning up any remaining imperfections.

Mask AI has several specialist AI models for portraits, pets, weddings and batch processing lots of images. It also continues to improve over time via machine learning.
