What is Webtrees?
webtrees is an open source web-based genealogy application used to track family histories and build family trees. It is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database backend to store all the genealogical data. webtrees allows users to:
- Create detailed profiles for individuals with information like names, vital details, events, relationships
- Build out a family tree showing the connections between relatives
- Source information by citing documents and repositories as evidence for facts
- Attach photos, documents and other media to individuals and families
- Analyze their tree with built-in charts and statistics
- Collaboratively build family trees by connecting with relatives also using webtrees
- Share all or parts of their tree by publishing dynamic websites
- Handle complex family relationships like adoptions, same-sex marriages etc.
