What is 7z SFX-Creator?
7z SFX-Creator is a lightweight Windows application that allows users to easily create self-extracting archives using the free and open source 7-Zip compression program. With 7z SFX-Creator, you can select files and folders, compress them into a 7z archive, and then wrap that archive into a self-extracting executable file.
The advantage of self-extracting, or SFX, archives is that recipients do not need to have compression software like 7-Zip installed in order to extract the files. The SFX executable file unpacks the 7z archive automatically when run. This makes distributing compressed file packages much easier.
7z SFX-Creator provides an intuitive drag-and-drop interface for adding files/folders to an archive. You can customize options like compression level, archive splitting, SFX stub size, and more before compiling your SFX file. The app also allows updating of existing SFX files.
As it relies on 7-Zip command line binaries for the compression and SFX wrapping, 7z SFX-Creator is lightweight itself. But it simplifies the process of creating compressed, self-extracting file packages for distributing to end users.
