What is Chained Echoes?

Chained Echoes is an upcoming fantasy role-playing game developed by Matthias Linda and heavily inspired by 16-bit era classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. It incorporates many elements and tropes reminiscent of those legendary JRPGs while aiming to modernize them for a new generation.

The game takes place in a high fantasy world thrown into chaos after three moons suddenly appear in the previously moonless sky. You take on the role of a young hero with a mysterious origin who gets caught up in an epic struggle between warring nations vying for control over the new moons. An innovative junction system allows you to combine magic spells and skills for powerful effects during the tactical turn-based battles.

Chained Echoes features lovely pixel art graphics inspired by the SNES era along with animated character portraits that breathe life into every emotional beat. The fantastical world is brought to life through gorgeous painted backgrounds and a memorable orchestral soundtrack led by renowned Final Fantasy composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. The game promises an epic 40+ hour story-driven campaign filled with twists, memorable characters, and impactful choices.

After a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign raising over $600k, Chained Echoes aims to launch in 2023 for PC and all major consoles. It hopes to deliver a heartfelt love letter to 16-bit JRPG classics while introducing fresh new ideas and innovations to the genre.
