Final Fantasy III is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Family Computer in 1990. It is the third installment in the Final Fantasy series. The story focuses on four orphaned youths who are granted magical powers of the Warriors of Light by an ominous crystal. Tasked with restoring balance to their world, the four protagonists embark on an adventure that leads them to meet several allies and confront the wicked Xande, who schemes to plunge the world into darkness.
The game utilizes a job system that allows players to freely change their characters' class, which in turn modifies their stats and available abilities in battle. Jobs like Thief, Red Mage, and Dragoon give Final Fantasy III an immense amount of customization and replayability. The iconic summons like Shiva, Ramuh, and Ifrit also make their debut in this entry.
Despite being limited to an 8-bit platform at the time of its release, Final Fantasy III featured detailed sprites, elaborate dungeons, and a memorable soundtrack. It was one of the most advanced RPGs that pushed the boundaries of the Famicom hardware. The game was later remade and rereleased for several platforms over the years in order to make it more accessible to modern audiences.
