A total of 10 teams participated in the tournament: England, Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and the West Indies.
The tournament featured a round-robin group stage with each team playing the other nine teams, followed by semifinals between the top four teams and the final at Lord's on 14 July 2019. England defeated New Zealand in a thrilling final via a Super Over to lift their first ever World Cup title in one of the most dramatic ODI matches of all time.
The tournament saw some outstanding individual performances with Rohit Sharma scoring five centuries, Mitchell Starc taking 27 wickets as the leading wicket taker, and Kane Williamson named player of the tournament for his consistent batting. Overall, the Cricket World Cup 2019 was considered a great success in terms of global viewership, attendance and competitiveness amongst teams.
