PenguiNet is an open source GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian that emphasizes security, privacy, and ease of use. It was created in response to the growing demand for user-friendly and secure computing environments. The aim with PenguiNet is to provide a fast, lightweight and intuitive desktop operating system for everyday computing.

At the core, PenguiNet uses the stable Debian GNU/Linux base which provides access to a vast repository of free software packages. The default desktop environment is a customized version of the Xfce desktop focused on usability. The preinstalled apps include Mozilla Firefox browser bundled with privacy addons like uBlock Origin, HTTPS Everywhere, and Privacy Badger to protect against ads and trackers during web browsing.

The OS comes preconfigured with a firewall, full disk encryption capability, and other advanced security and privacy measures. Amongst the default apps is the Tor browser for anonymous web surfing. There is an intuitive graphical interface for installing and updating software. For convenience, it includes multimedia codecs, word and spreadsheet software, email client with PGP encryption capability, and other common desktop applications.
