What is Apple iWork?
Apple iWork is a productivity software suite developed by Apple Inc. originally for its macOS and iOS operating systems. iWork includes Pages for word processing and page layout, Numbers for spreadsheets, Keynote for presentations, and collaborative tools.
The first version of iWork was announced on January 6, 2003 at the Macworld Conference & Expo and made available on January 19. It comprised Keynote 1.0 and Pages 1.0. In 2005, Apple released iWork ‘05, which added Numbers 1.0. iWork ‘08, released in August 2007, added support for word processing tables and enhanced charting capabilities in Keynote.
In October 2013, Apple announced an iOS-exclusive rebranding of the iWork suite: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. These introduced separate iOS and OS X versions of each app and full 64-bit support. iWork for iCloud was also launched as a beta. iWork for iOS was updated in March 2014 with support for iOS 7, refreshed icons, and general improvements.
Key features of iWork include extensive formatting options, collaboration tools, advanced typography with support for OpenType fonts, animations and transitions in Keynote presentations, multi-touch gestures, and built-in sharing via iCloud, AirDrop and email. As of 2023, iWork apps are only available for macOS and iOS devices.
