What is Elkarbackup?
ElkarBackup is an open-source backup solution developed specifically for Linux and UNIX-like operating systems. It features deduplication to eliminate redundant data in backups, client-side encryption to secure backups, differential and incremental backups to save bandwidth and storage, and support for backing up to local, remote, or cloud storage.
Some key features of ElkarBackup include:
- Deduplication at file or block level to eliminate duplicate data and save storage space
- Encryption using GPG or OpenSSL to keep backup data private
- File versioning and integrity checks to detect changes or corruption
- Support for backing up to local filesystems, remote servers via SSH/SFTP, or various cloud storage services
- Web-based, multi-user management interface for monitoring backup status remotely
- Job scheduling with notifications to automate backups
- Hard link copies for saving storage space on the backup destination filesystem
ElkarBackup can be deployed on a central backup server for centralized backups of multiple client machines. Remote servers and NAS/cloud storage also be used as destinations. Custom backup jobs and schedules can be defined through the web interface or configuration files.
Compared to other Linux backup solutions ElkarBackup places an emphasis on deduplication and flexible destination options to maximize storage efficiency. The integrity checking and logging also make it suitable for administrators/companies that require auditable and trustworthy backups
