Discover the immersive underwater world of Ever17, a 2002 visual novel with branching storylines and multiple endings based on player choices, trapping several characters in an eerie theme park.

What is Ever17?

Ever17 is a visual novel developed by KID and released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and Windows. It is widely considered one of the best visual novels of all time due to its complex, well-written storyline and characters.

The basic premise follows several characters who become trapped in an underwater theme park called LeMU. The park is located 17 meters below sea level, hence the name Ever17. Over the course of the game, the player makes choices for the protagonist that determine which narrative path is taken and ultimately which of the many endings is achieved.

A central aspect of Ever17's storyline is untangling mysteries and uncovering the truth of the events at LeMU. Why are the characters trapped underwater? Who is behind it all? As the story progresses with each choice the player makes, more details and twists are revealed.

The game is presented primarily through the perspective of two different protagonists - Takeshi Kuranari and The Kid. There are also several prominent female characters that play key roles. Over the 30+ hours of game time across multiple playthroughs, intricate relationships form among this small group undergoing tense experiences together.

Ever17 is highly regarded for its character depth, complex interwoven narrative, meaningful player choices leading to impactful endings, and thought-provoking themes. It's a shining example of the storytelling potential of visual novels as a gaming genre.
