What is FORScan?
FORScan is an open source diagnostic software application specifically designed for Ford, Mazda, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. It utilizes an ELM327 OBD-II interface to connect to a vehicle's on-board diagnostics port and communicate with the vehicle's electronic control modules (ECMs).
Some key features that FORScan provides beyond a basic OBD-II diagnostic scan tool include:
- Reading and clearing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Displaying live data from various vehicle sensors and modules
- Performing automated tests to check functionality of systems like ABS, airbags, 4WD, etc.
- Basic reprogramming and configurations of various modules
- Key programming and configurations like remote transmitters
As an open source software, FORScan is completely free to use. It runs on Windows laptops and tablets, providing enhanced diagnostic capabilities for DIYers and professional mechanics working on Ford/Mazda vehicles. The extensive capabilities allow precise fault finding and customization options not possible through basic OBD-II codes.
