GFX Bench: Benchmarking App for Mobile Graphics Performance

GFX Bench is a benchmarking app that measures graphics performance of mobile devices. It runs various tests like graphics, compute, battery life, etc. to determine how well a device can handle intensive gaming and graphics tasks.

What is GFX Bench?

GFX Bench is a popular benchmarking and testing application used to evaluate the graphics processing performance of mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. It was originally developed by Kishonti Ltd and is now owned by UL Benchmarks.

The app measures various aspects of a device's graphics capabilities by running intensive tests designed to stress the GPU and graphics pipeline. Some of the key things tested by GFX Bench include:

  • Frame rate performance for gaming graphics
  • Rendering complex 3D game-like scenes
  • Texture filtering, blending, lighting, etc.
  • Advanced graphics API performance like OpenGL ES and Vulkan
  • Compute-intensive algorithms using the GPU
  • Power consumption and battery life during sustained graphic intensive use

GFX Bench outputs a detailed score as well as frames per second readings for the various sub-tests. These scores can be compared across devices to gauge relative graphics performance. The results are useful for assessing gaming capabilities, app development needs, power efficiency and thermal management of mobile chips.

While mainly focused on benchmarking, GFX Bench also includes some interactive gaming-style demos that visualize the graphics performance on display. It helps evaluate real-world graphical capabilities for mobile gaming and 3D applications.
