What is Kouio?

Kouio is a free and open source note taking application for desktop and mobile devices. It priortizes simplicity and ease of use with a clean and intuitive interface while still providing powerful organizational features to help users keep their thoughts organized.

At its core, Kouio is built around notebooks which contain individual notes. Notes can be created as simple rich text documents or with markdown formatting for more complex documents. A variety of templates are included for common note types like meeting notes, journal entries, project plans, and more. Notes can also include images, files attachments, tags, links between notes, and customizable covers.

Notebooks help organize all your notes into whatever hierarchical structure makes sense for your needs. For example, you may want notebooks for personal, work, specific projects or classes, etc. Notebooks can contain both individual notes and other notebooks for further organization.

Kouio offers apps for all major desktop and mobile platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android with full cross-platform sync between devices. This makes Kouio flexible for accessing your notes from anywhere. The apps also fully support pen input including pressure and tilt so writing notes by hand feels natural.

As an open source project, Kouio is completely free to use and customize. Enthusiasts can even compile the apps themselves or contribute to development on GitHub. For most users though, simply downloading the prebuilt apps is all that's needed to start enjoying a better note taking experience.
