LibreWolf — Privacy-Hardened Firefox Fork (2026 Review)

LibreWolf is a Firefox fork with aggressive privacy defaults. No telemetry, strict tracking protection, and uBlock Origin pre-installed. Desktop only.

What is LibreWolf?

What Is LibreWolf?

LibreWolf is a privacy-hardened fork of Firefox maintained by an independent community. It ships with aggressive privacy defaults — telemetry disabled, tracking protection set to strict, and uBlock Origin pre-installed — so users get strong privacy protection out of the box without manual configuration.

Key Features

LibreWolf removes all Mozilla telemetry, Pocket integration, sponsored content, and crash reporting. It enables Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection in strict mode by default, blocks third-party cookies, and resists fingerprinting. uBlock Origin comes pre-installed.

The browser uses the same extension ecosystem as Firefox, so all Firefox add-ons work. It receives updates closely tracking Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) for stability, with privacy patches applied on top.

Who Uses LibreWolf

LibreWolf is popular among privacy-conscious users who prefer Firefox's engine over Chromium but do not want to spend time manually hardening Firefox settings. It is common in the Linux community and among users migrating from Firefox who want stronger defaults.

Limitations

Some websites may break due to strict privacy settings (particularly those relying on third-party cookies). Updates can lag a few days behind Firefox releases. There is no mobile version — LibreWolf is desktop-only (Windows, macOS, Linux).
